The Societat d'Onomàstica

Foundation, legal entity and social domicile

The Societat d'Onomàstica was founded in 1980 by doctor Enric Moreu-Rey and some professors of university and local researchers, specially from Camp de Tarragona. It is a legal entity and is registered in the Registro Provincial de Asociaciones de Barcelona, first section, number 4836, since that year. Its social domicile is: Diputació, 276, principal, 08009 Barcelona.

Object

The object of the Societat d'Onomàstica is, especially, to promote the inventory, the study and the defence of the proper names (onomastics), the personal names and the place names; to coordinate the researchers activities; to publish an internal bulletin and specialized monographs; to give technical advice to persons and institutions; to organize meetings and conferences about these matters and to do the inventory of bibliography and documentation.

Activities

At this moment, the main activities of the Societat d'Onomàstica are:
a) to organize meetings about onomastics
b) to publish the internal bulletin
c) to publish municipal onomastic monographs, into an agreement with the Institut Cartogràfic de Catalunya

Area of activities

The area of activities of the Societat d'Onomàstica is the catalan language and its dialects area, at this moment and at the preceding historic times.
